Hello everyone!

I wanted to let everyone know we have decided this will be the last update to this site. The site will remain active so we will still use it to share Mallory’s story! All past updates, pictures, guestbook entries etc. will remain as well. Please continue to share Mal’s story and feel free to share the website so others can read about our journey!!

We have a Facebook page that we will update regularly as we will continue to have fundraisers and special announcements as well. Our FB page is Pay It Forward 17, please be sure to like this page and invite your friends to like our page as well. If you have not joined the FB world and wish to keep up with all that is going on please send us an email and we will be sure you are in the loop.

We miss our girl so much, no parent should have to bury their child. One thing I can say for sure, our girl touched so many lives and still does all the time. I love it when I get the opportunity to share Mallory’s journey with other folks and hope you will continue to share as well.

We cannot begin to thank all of you enough for following our girl’s story, we still miss her every single day! Thank you all so much for all the prayers, thoughts, comments and support!!
Missing our brown eyed girl and love to all.

We will leave you with one of Mallory’s favorite versus: 1 Corinthians 13:13, And now these three remain, faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Hello everyone, hope your year is starting off well!! We are long overdue for an update so here goes!

In 2015 we raised $19,347.17 for the Georgia Transplant Foundation Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship! Our total amount since September 2011 is $103,549.93, YAY!! We did this with the help of so many of you and we are so thankful for your support!

As you probably know we will no longer have a walk in September. We will however continue to have our Zaxby’s night, one on February 16th and another in August. We will also still have our JD’s Barbeque day in April. We are so thankful to Zaxby’s and JD’s Barbeque for their continued support. Here are the addresses for the locations participating on the 16th:

3511 Baker Rd., Acworth
202 Hillside Overlook, Dallas
1640 Old Hwy 41, Kennesaw
2500 Barrett Creek Blvd., Marietta
1347 Church Street Ext., Marietta
2756 Sandy Plains Rd., Marietta
3405 Dallas Hwy. SW, Marietta
4410 Brownsville Rd., Powder Springs
1420 Spring Rd. SE, Smyrna

A few weeks ago I was listening to 104.7 The Fish on my way in to work and one of the announcers was talking about how he loved to wear crazy socks! Of course, all I could do was think about Mallory and her socks so I decided to call in to the station. Yes, I was on the radio so her story was heard by a lot of folks! After this “moment of fame”, we received several emails and post from people wanting to help with SOCK day! We had a few donations of socks before the 15th and are expecting more soon which we will use next year. As a matter of fact we have 3 kindergarten classes donating 100 pair from each class for their 100th day of school!

On January 15th, that dreaded anniversary date, we went to Egleston and handed out about 500 pair of socks to the kids. It was bittersweet and so rewarding to see how a pair of silly socks can bring a smile to their faces. We look forward to doing this again next year and plan to make this event BIGGER. If you would like to have a sock drive to collect socks please contact me and we will work it out.

Thanks for your continued support!! Please sign our guestbook if you have a moment.

Missing our girl….Prayers always welcome.

Hi everyone!

Just a few quick updates, this past Saturday was Mallory’s birthday, which is always a very tough day.  Mike and I went to the cemetery and took our girl balloons and roses.  Then we went and had lunch at her favorite restaurant, Friday’s and had her favorite meal Jack Daniel’s Chicken, my mom and Robert joined us for lunch. Tough Tough day!!

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your support for Team Mal and making our walks such a huge success.  We could not have reached our yearly goals without your support and monetary donations!!

Our goals for 2015, 100 walkers - we had 166, 20 corporate sponsors - we had 22, raise $16,000 - we raised $18,645.17!!!  Goal to be reached by the end of 2015 - $100,000, DONE!!!!! I thought you might be interested to see what we have accomplished since our first walk in September 2011 (just 4 years), here are the numbers!

2011   $22,332.00
2012   $24,896.09
2013   $20,787.15
2014   $16,187.52
2015   $18,645.17 >
GRAND TOTAL:   $102,847.93

All of this could not have been possible without each and every one of you, so thank you!! From the entire Smith family, thank you so much!!  We are touching many lives with the Georgia Transplant Foundation Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship.  Mallory"s legacy will live on for many years!!  This is not the end of our efforts, just the end of the annual walk, we will continue to raise money for GTF and continue to tell our girls story.  For anyone that has not read her story, I highly suggest you click on the journal and read it from the beginning, I am sure it will inspire you!!

Also, September 17th will be the 7 year anniversary of Mal’s second transplant.  If you have a moment please say a prayer for the donor’s family as well as our family.  These anniversary dates are emotional for us and I know they are for the one that lost their loved one in order for Mal to be a little longer.  Sure do miss that girl every single day!!!

This will be our last update for a while as we are taking a much needed break from fundraising, but we will be back soon!!

Don’t forget to sign our guestbook we love hearing from everyone!

Hello everyone! We are so excited about the 5th Annual (Final) Mallory’s Walk Sunday, September 13th!! We will walk rain or shine!! Here are a few details you will need to know:
GOAL FOR 2015 is $16,000.00 which would put us over $100,000 for the GTF Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship!! We have about 175 people signed up to walk this year and we hope ALL of you can make it!!!!
• Location is Northstar Church, 3413 Blue Springs Road, Kennesaw GA 30144. Parking, please park in the parking lot behind the church. Please do not park in the parking lot to the left of the church (if you are facing the front of the church) as this is where we will walk and we want to keep the lot as empty as possible. After you park and are facing the back of the church go to the right side of the building and you will see a bridge that you can walk over to reach the registration table, we will have folks to guide you for those of you who have never attended. Also, our church now has 3 services and the last one ends at 12:45 so the area might be a bit congested for a short time just before registration time.

• Registration will begin at 1:15 and the walk will be from 2:00-3:15ish. When registering please be prepared to pay for your shirts and turn in any donations you have collected, hopefully you are asking friend, family, coworkers, etc. to sponsor you with a donation. ALL checks should be payable to Georgia Transplant Foundation (GTF). GTF can accept cash, checks and credit cards. No amount is too small and of course no amount is too large either! If someone wants to join you at the walk but has not registered that is fine also, we just cannot guarantee a walk shirt will be available for them to purchase as we only ordered a few extra.

• Shane’s Rib Shack is donating BBQ box lunches again this year. You can purchase the lunch for $5.00 each and ALL proceeds will be donated to GTF. The lunches are being delivered to the church at 11:00 so we can sell them after our last two church services. PLEASE NOTE: THESE WILL BE AVAILABLE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS!!

• Be sure to wear your crazy socks in memory of our girl!! As in the year’s past we will be collecting crazy socks to be donated to kids at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in January. Currently, our biggest need is for middle/high school boys and infants sizes.

If you registered for someone else or a group please be sure they see this email so they will have all the details.

Thank you all so much for continuing to walk with us on this journey and support our efforts for the GTF Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship. If you should need to contact me with any questions please reply to this email or you can call/text me at 770.313.9818.

Hello all! Hope all our Team Mal supporters are doing well! Have several updates:

Last week Mike and I delivered around 650 coloring book and crayons to CHOA (Egleston) in memory of our sweet girl. Thanks so much to everyone who donated; I am sure this will bring a smile to a lot of sick kid’s faces!

Tomorrow night, Tuesday August 4th from 5-8 is our Zaxby’s night, eat in and carry out! Here are the addresses for the locations participating: 105 Thomas B. Murphy Drive Dallas, 3511 Baker Road Acworth, 202 Hillside Overlook Dallas, 1640 Old Hwy 41 Kennesaw, 1347 Church Street Ext Marietta, 2500 Barrett Creek Blvd Marietta, 2756 Sandy Plains Road Marietta and 4410 Brownsville Road Power Springs. All locations will donate 10% of their sales to GTF Team Mal from 5-8 pm. If you live in these areas please come out and support us and be sure to thank them for supporting our cause. Also, if any location tells you they are not participating, please know they ARE. Mike and I will be at the location on Old 41 around 6, come join us, we try to visit a different location each fundraiser. If you do attend please be sure to take a picture of yourself showing your support for Team Mal and post it to the Facebook page, Pay It Forward 17.

I had a fundraising campaign in July by simply asking for donations on Facebook! I don’t have the total yet as I am waiting for a couple more checks to come in but we are over $1,000. Four lucky winners will win a team mal shirt!

Please see the post below (July 8) for all the details on the 5th (Final) Mallory’s Walk, September 13th. Registration is open, just click on "Mallory’s Walk" on the top left hand corner of the website to register. We have just added two new shirts sizes, youth small and adult XXL. We need 100 walkers, so please support our last walk and join us on the 13th! If you do plan to join us please go ahead and register as it helps us with planning. If you cannot attend donations are always welcome and no amount is too small!! After you register you will receive a confirmation email, if you do not please email me at teammal717@gmail.com so I can research. Registration will close on 8/31.

We have 19 paid corporate sponsors ranging from 200-$1,000 each, isn’t that awesome!! We need one more, if you have a company or know of a company that might be willing to sponsor feel free to email me and I will contact them!! $200 or more gets their company name on the back of the shirt designed for the walk! This year the shirt is designed by Mallory’s brother, Michael, he has done a great job on it and I LOVE his idea. It is a secret and will be revealed the day of the walk!!

Thank you for your continued support. Remember out guest book is still active and we love hearing from you!

Hello everyone! Several updates! Over the past couple of months Team Mal had a crayon/coloring book drive to collect items for CHOA (Egleston). We collected 375 boxes of crayons and 249 coloring books!! Thank you to everyone who donated and special thank you to a very sweet young lady in Eufaula Alabama that helped with this drive and collected at least 1/2 of these for us. I will be taking them to Egleston next week and am sure these will put a smile on the faces of many children.

On August 4th from 5-8 pm, we will have our next Zaxby"s fundraiser and have 8 locations participating as follows, if you are local please try to attend and be sure to thank the staff for their kindness:

Shanes Rib Shack has agreed to donate boxed BBQ lunches again this year!! Each lunch will be $5, we will have 200 boxes and they will be first come first serve. All proceeds will go toward our goal.

Our goal is to raise a total of $16,000 for 2015 which would put us at $100,000 for the GTF Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship; this will fund the scholarship for 25 years!!! Currently for the month of July we are asking for 100 people to send just $10!! This would add $1,000 to our total and help us get closer to our goal. If you are interested in donating $10 please email me and I will give you the details on how to donate.
Registration is OPEN on the website, please click on "Mallory"s Walk" in the top left hand corner of the website. Please just complete the information and submit. Also, be sure to start collecting your donations to turn at the walk.
We are also looking for Corporate Sponsors so if you are interested or know anyone who might be, please email me and I can provide more details on how to become involved.

Hello everyone, this is going to be a long update! First of all, Mike and I have been invited to Scottish Rite at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta next Tuesday from 10-12 for a VIP party and private showing of a program that will air on the 26th at 9 p.m. on our local PBS channel. Mallory did an interview for CHOA several years ago and her interview will be part of the 30 minute segment to celebrate their 100 year anniversary. I am trying to find out if it can be viewed online for those that don’t live in the Atlanta area and will post an update on Tuesday if that is the case with a link. If not, I know we will receive a DVD and will somehow get it loaded for everyone to watch. Mike and I are both honored that out of the hundred of thousands of patients to go through CHOA that our girl will be a part of the celebration. She is still touching lives!!! I wanted to say thank you to everyone who came out to JD’s BBQ in Acworth back in April, we raised $400.00 for GTF!! So far for 2015 our total raised is $2,000, our goal for this year is $16,000. If we can reach this goal by 12/31/2015 this would be a grand total of $100,000 raised for The Georgia Transplant Foundation Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship, which is enough for 25 individuals to receive $1,000 for 4 years!! Please save the date for the 5th Annual Mallory’s Walk, which will be held at Northstar Church again on Sunday September 13th, stay tuned for further details as we have them. Now for the big announcement……We have made a decision that this year will be the last year for Mallory’s Walk. This was a very tough emotional decision but we feel it is the right one. We want to end this walk on a happy note and feel like this is the time to do it. So, with that said, we need YOUR support!!! We need WALKERS and we need DONATIONS!! If each person who attended the walk last year could bring just one or two more folks with them we could easily hit 200-300 walkers and go out with a bang!!! Sponsors for the walk – We will have many of our sponsors that have supported us over the years continue for this year. We will be losing a few so if you know of any company that might be willing to sponsor the walk, please contact me ASAP and I will be happy to reach out to them. As far as donations it is NEVER too early to start asking your family, friends, and coworkers to donate to GTF on your behalf in memory of Mallory! We take donations year round and need to get started on meeting our goal, we cannot do this without your help. So, please get busy collecting donations! If someone gives you a check please contact me on how to get it turned in so you aren’t holding it for so long. I know we can do this!! If each person reading this asked just 10 people for $20 or so our goal would be so easy to meet. Dig deep, start saving now and spread the word!! Team Mal can do this!!! If anyone has any ideas for additional ways to raise money to meet our goal, please let me know. Maybe your company would do a jean day, or a sponsorship or even put together a team for the walk. Any idea is worth looking at so please email me if you can think of any! Fundraisers – we will continue to do fundraisers as we have done in the past. Two Zaxby’s nights per year and our annual JD’s BBQ fundraiser in April, (well for as long as they will continue to support us). We are so thankful to have their support for our cause they are wonderful people to give back to the community. Mike and I cannot begin to thank everyone enough for the support we have received the past four years and for the support we will receive going forward. Mallory is still missed every day and I would give anything to hear her voice one more time, to hug her, to have a meal with her, to go shopping with her, to drive her to Egleston with her feet propped on the dash radio blasting and both of us singing to the top of our lungs. Well, that was not God’s plan; he needed her as an angel in heaven. In the blink of an eye we will see her again and what a wonderful day that will be!! Thank you so much for reading and if you have a moment sign the guestbook, we love hearing from you. If you need to contact me with any questions/ideas, etc. please email me at teammal717@gmail.com Again, thank you and God Bless!! Lisa Smith

Hello everyone, I have a few things to update all our Team Mal supporters on:

On February 12th, I attended the KMHS Cheerleading Banquet where the recipient of the Mallory Smith Cheerleading Scholarship was presented to Ansley Wells. This is always a bittersweet night and I am so thankful to Coach Sherri Gilliam for continuing this tradition and as always I could not have made it through the night without Rhonda, thanks for always being there with me! Here is a picture of Ansley and me below:

Our 1st Zaxby’s night for this year, which took place on 2/26 was a huge success! We had 8 stores participate and raised a total of $1,629 for the GTF Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship Fund. Here are the 8 locations, in case you ever stop in and want to thank them for their support of Team Mal, 3511 Baker Road Acworth, 105 Thomas B Murphy Drive Dallas, 202 Hillside Overlook Dallas, 1640 Old Hwy 41 Kennesaw, 1347 Church Street Ext Marietta, 2500 Barrett Creek Blvd Marietta, 2756 Sandy Plains Road Marietta, and 4410 Brownsville Road Powder Springs, all in GA. As always thank to our 8 stores that participated and to all the folks that came out and enjoyed some good food with friends and family. We will plan to do this again in July or August.

Save the date! Our next fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, April 14th at JD’s Barbeque in Acworth, 4424 S. Main Street. I will have more details on this soon and will update in a couple of weeks.

The 5th Annual Mallory’s Walk will be held at Northstar Church on Sunday, September 13th, so please go ahead and mark that on your calendars and plan to attend.

Our goal for this year as far as all our fundraisers is $16,000, this would put us over $100,000 in less than 4 year, so we need your support!! We can do it!! Thank you all so much for checking in and keeping up with our girl’s story. We still hand out cards, still share her story as often as possible and still miss her so much!!

One more thing to share….I have been trying to decide what to do with Mallory’s T-shirts, (she has so many). Then it finally hit me months ago that I wanted a T-shirt quilt made from her favorite shirts. I wasn’t really ready at that time to “pull the trigger” but a month or so ago I decided to do it. My boss but me in contact with a friend of his who owns Little Quilts in Marietta, GA. So, I went over and met with her and picked out all the fabric I needed for the quilt. Rhonda and I even had a very small part in the making of the quilt; we cut out all the shirts and ironed the backing on them. I then delivered all the shirts and fabric back to Little Quilts for them to assign to a quilter. Well the quilt was ready this week so I picked it up on Monday. It is absolutely more beautiful than I could have ever imagined!!! And, I found out after the quilt was made that the lady who made it…..well her son and Mallory went to school together from 3rd grade all the way to Graduation!! Now, isn’t that a small world. Here is a picture:

Thanks again for continuing to check in on us and keep spreading our girl’s story!! Remember, don’t take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them here! If you would like to subscribe to receive an email when we post an update please just email me at teammal717@gmail.com

Thanks again and God Bless you all!!

Happy New Year, hope this finds you all doing well! I wanted to go ahead and give you a heads up on our first Team Mal GTF fundraiser of 2015. We will have Zaxby"s night on Thursday, February 26th from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. We currently have 6 locations participating and hope to get a few more on board. The participating locations will donate 10% of all sales to GTF in memory of Mallory to help fund the Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship Fund.
Here are the addresses of the participating locations:
1347 Church Street Ext. Marietta, 2500 Barrett Creek Blvd. Marietta, 202 Hillside Overlook Dallas, 2756 Sandy Plains Road Marietta, 1640 Old Hwy 41 Kennesaw, and 4410 Brownsville Road Powder Springs.

If you live in any of these areas and could support our cause that would be awesome. You have to eat so why not have some Zaxby"s chicken or one of their awesome salads. You can even get your meal to go and it will count towards our donation to GTF.

Please forward this email to everyone you can and help us make this the biggest Team Mal Zaxby"s night yet. Also, please share on social media with all your friends and family! The more we can get the word out the bigger our turn out.

On a side note, if you go to one of the locations above and are told they are not participating, please don"t worry and be assured they are.

I will send another email shortly before the event to remind everyone. Thanks so much for your support of Team Mal and GTF! Our goal is to raise $16,000 in 2015 with various fundraisers, hope to see you soon!!

Well yesterday was 4 years ago that we said goodbye to our brown eyed girl and we still miss her so much! I cannot believe it has been four years. Sometimes it feels like 10 and sometimes it feels like yesterday.

We went to Egleston and handed out crazy socks to the patients and it truly brought a smile to those kids’ faces, they got so excited over something as simple as socks. We had a total of 575 pair of socks, 5+7+5...17!! We left some for future patients and with the child life specialist for games and for the ER! Thanks so much to everyone that helped make this possible by sending us socks! Thank you Rhonda for being there with Mike and me, your friendship means so much to us!

If you ever feel down or like the weight of the world is on your shoulders you should walk the halls of a children’s hospital, I guarantee you that you will leave feeling different than when you arrived!

I was so amazed at how many nurses/doctors talked about Mallory, everyone remembered her (of course) and several even said they still have her picture on their desk...or in their office...or a drawing she did for them. I am so blessed God picked me to be her momma!

We also went to Friday’s for dinner and enjoyed one of Mal’s favorite dishes, this has become an annual thing for us and it is just our way of remembering our girl. Miss her every day!!

Thank you all so much for continuing to support Team Mal and our efforts. We appreciate each and every one of you for all you do. Our next Team Mal event will be a Zaxbys night, date and locations will be announced in a couple of weeks. Also, if you have a moment leave a note in the guestbook and let us hear from you as well. God Bless!!

Wow, it is amazing to me how fast time flies.  7 years ago today Mallory received her 2nd liver, Izzie.  I will never forget when the nurses walked in the room to tell us they had a liver for Mallory.  This day comes with a lot of emotions, because of a selfless act by another family we were able to have a few more years with our girl, my goodness I miss that silly girl!!  Please take a moment and pray for the family that lost their loved one on this day 7 years ago, we know how hard anniversaries are and I am sure they are remembering their loved one today.

This past Friday, the 12th was Mallory’s birthday.  Mike and I had lunch at Fridays and had one of her favorite meals, Jack Daniels Chicken!!  It was an emotional day but we are glad we have each other to get through these very difficult times.

The 4th Annual Mallory’s Walk was another huge success!  The weather was absolutely perfect, we had around 110 walkers and have raised $15,400 this year!  Our goal by the end of the year is $16,000 and I have no doubt we will reach that goal.  That would put us at a grand total of $84,000!!  Our goal for next year will be $16,000 which would then put us over $100,000 for the GTF Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship!  Please email me if you want to donate and help us reach our goal for this year.

The Scholarship for this year was awarded to a young man, John, who is the brother of a pediatric 3x liver recipient.  He is enrolled as a sophomore and is attending Georgia State University this fall.  His goals are to obtain a BS in Biology and to become a dentist.  John graduated from HS with honors and has attended Georgia Perimeter College for the last year and is on the Dean’s list.  He volunteers at his church and at CHOA through their VolunTeen program.  John will receive $1,000 per year for 4 years!

So, as you can see all the hard work, time, efforts and donations put into the walk every year is very rewarding and will help this young man reach his goal!

Thank you so much to everyone that has participated and supported Team Mal.  We hope that if you are not an organ donor that Mallory’s story will touch your life and you will change your mind.   If you have never read Mallory’s story I encourage you to take the time to read it, it is all here on this website.

Thanks again and be sure to leave us a note!

Hello everyone!  Couple of quick updates from Team Mal:

Our last Zaxby’s night we raised just over $1,300!!  Thanks to everyone who participated and a big THANK YOU to the 8 locations that participated!

Now for more details on the walk!  Today is the last day to register in order to receive a shirt at the walk, ($5.00).  In order to get the shirts printed in time we have to have a deadline so we can get the sizes to our shirt vendor.  If you live out of town and cannot be at the walk you can still order a shirt.  The cost for your shirt would be $5.00 plus shipping, the shirts will be mailed after payment is received and after the walk.

To register click on “Mallory’s Walk” in the upper left hand corner, fill out the form and submit, you will receive a confirmation email if you do not please notify us ASAP.  If you want the shirt but cannot make the walk, please go ahead and register, fill out the form including the size(s) you need and in the additional walker field simply type “not attending”.  Be sure to fill in your email address so I can contact you to arrange payment and shipment of the shirt.  All walkers will receive one final email a couple of days before the walk with more information.

Also, if you cannot attend but would like to make a donation, you can do so by clicking in the upper right hand corner on the Georgia Transplant Foundation logo and make your donation via credit card.  If donating on line be sure to put “Team Mal” in the “in memory of” field.  If you prefer to mail a check please email me and we will work out the details.

We are excited about the 4th Annual Mallory’s Walk and hope to see YOU there!!

Have a wonderful day and take the time to share our girl’s story this week, let’s touch some more lives!!

Hello everyone. I wanted to ask everyone to please keep Brandon Tovar’s family in your prayers. Brandon is a young man that Mallory met through the transplant world and he passed away on Tuesday. Brandon lead a life full of health issues and was the recipient of 2 transplants. His family has some tough days/months ahead of them so please take a moment and pray for them as they travel this unimaginable road. Here is a link to Brandon’s obituary in case you want to read more about him: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/pjstar/obituary.aspx?n=brandon-tovar&pid=171107176&fhid=11505 As you will notice his family is directing donations to Team Mal GTF in memory of Brandon, we are very honored, still touching lives!

Also wanted to give an update on a few things: We had our JD’s BBQ fundraiser last month and raised a total of $500 in one day. So far for 2014 we have raised just under $3,000 for GTF! We will have another Zaxby’s fundraiser in July, last time we had 10 locations and hope to have even more with our next event. The date for the walk has been set for Sunday, September 14th so planning for that will start soon, more details at a later date.

Now, just a short update on what else is going on in the Smith house. Mike and I decided we needed a change of scenery, we have sold our house in Kennesaw and are in the process of building a new home on 5 acres of land in the Dallas/Douglasville area. This was a huge step for us but felt it was the right decision for the next chapter in our lives. Michael, Angela and the boys are doing great. The sweet grandsons are now 2 and 3 and are just amazing. God sure knew what he was doing when he blessed our family with those boys!

Thanks for reading and leave us a note if you have a moment.

Missing our girl…endlessly. Lisa

April Is Donor Awareness Month! Are you an organ donor? If not, you should consider becoming one! Because of the generosity of two families we had almost 5 more years with our brown eyed girl. Sure do miss her every day and it does not get easier!! I miss all the things we will never get to do….

Here is what is happening with Team Mal so far in 2014.

We had our first Zaxby’s night back in February and raised $2,000 for GTF! Thanks to everyone that came out supported us for this event. We certainly appreciate the various Zaxby’s locations supporting us with these events from time to time.

My daughter in law, Angela, is an Independent Distributor for Premier Designs Jewelry, during the month of April she will donate a portion of her profits to Georgia Transplant Foundation Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship Fund! So, if you live in our area and would like to host a show and earn yourself some free jewelry while supporting a great cause or if you would like to place an individual order please email me and I will put you in touch with Angela. Thanks Angela, we love you and appreciate you!!

Our next event is Tuesday, April 22nd at JD’s BBQ located at 4424 S. Main Street, Acworth GA. JD’s will donate a portion of ALL sales for the ENTIRE day to the GTF Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship so come on out and join us for some great food! Thanks to Chip Allen for supporting us with this fundraising day!

Also, please mark you calendars for the 4th Annual Mallory’s Walk to be held on Sunday, September 14th! More details later in the year.

Thank you for checking in and supporting Team Mal, Mallory’s story is still touching so many lives and we appreciate you all. The guestbook is still active so please drop us a note if you have a moment. God Bless! Lisa , teammal717@gmail.com

UPDATE:  TEAM MAL HAS BEEN RESTORED!!

January 16, 2014:  Well as you might have seen from my post below, our server that houses Team Mal recently crashed and we lost a lot of information.  Mike is trying to retrieve it and we will update the site if he is able to do so.  Just to recap a few things since we lost some data:  We had the 3rd Annual Mallory’s Walk in September and raised $20,787.15 for the GTF Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship!  Since our first walk in September of 2011 we have raised a grand total of $68,015.24!!  This is wonderful and we will continue on this year with various fundraisers and the 4th walk.  In February we will have another Zaxby’s night at multiple locations so stay tuned for information on that event and more in the coming months.

Yesterday, was 3 years ago that we said goodbye to our brown eyed girl and we still miss her so much!  We went to Egleston and handed out crazy socks to the patients and it truly brought a smile to those kids’ faces.  If you ever feel down or like the weight of the world is on your shoulders you should walk the halls of a children’s hospital, I guarantee you that you will leave feeling different than when you arrived!

I plan to update again as soon as I have a few dates for upcoming events so be sure to check back!  Also, if you have a moment leave a note in the guestbook and let us hear from you as well.  God Bless!!  Lisa Smith

Hello everyone. I wanted to give an update on how much Team Mal has raised for Georgia Transplant Foundation. As of today our grand total since we started our fundraising efforts is $67,633.24, we are just $366.76 from raising enough to fund The Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship for 17 years!! I would love to reach this number by the end of the year. If you would like to donate to help us reach this goal please email me and I can give you details on how to contribute! The 2nd scholarship was awarded earlier this month to a young lady, Kathleen, who is a 17 year old liver recipient. Kathleen is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in nursing and says, "I want to help children who have similar condition as mine". Congratulations Kathleen! Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends! Mallory"s favorite Thanksgiving food is gravy, yes gravy!! If you have a moment please say a prayer for us today, the days are still tough but holidays are worse. Missing my brown eyed girl... God Bless you all and thanks for checking in! Speaking from the heart……..Two years ago…..

Two years ago today our whole world changed, the life we knew was gone, forever changed.  Two years ago we had to say good bye to our brown eyed girl, something no parent ever thinks they will have to do.  After all, they are supposed to say good bye to us, not us to them.  As I type this update the emotions of that day are right here right now, not any easier, still unbelievable.  How in the world is a parent suppose to go on without their child, it is difficult, so very difficult.  Yes, we know she is not in pain, yes we know she is in Heaven with GOD, and for that we are very thankful.  However, that does not take away how much we miss her, how much we long to hear her voice again, see her smile again.  That does not heal the huge hole in our hearts.  Yes, we do take comfort in knowing we will see her again one day…and oh my goodness what a glorious day that will be.  Getting through her birthday, the holidays (she loved the Holidays) is so incredibly hard, but looking at the calendar and realizing today is January 15th puts this huge lump in my throat that just will not go away.

Our plans for today will be very similar to what we did last year on this day….we will hand out socks to the kids at Egleston (lots of socks), we will eat at Friday’s and order her favorite entrée (Jack Daniel’s Chicken), we will take balloons and roses (red roses, her favorite) to the cemetery then we will watch one of her favorite movies, this year we will watch Grease.  We will be together and comfort each other and just pray that we get through the day as best we can.  I do know that Mallory would be so proud that we are sharing her story, that we are using her story to touch more lives and that we are carrying on HER legacy!  What can you do as a member of Team Mal?  You can stop what you are doing right now and pray for us…our family, just pray for strength for us; we need it every day but especially today.  I will go now, and leave you with one of my favorite verses and two of Mallory"s favorite:

Isa 41:10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Two of Mallory’s favorite verses:

 Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

1 Corinthians 13:13

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

God Bless, Lisa aka Mallory’s momma!!

If you have a moment, leave us a note in the guestbook to let us know you stopped by.

Our first one for 2013 will be on Thursday, February 7th at Zaxby"s near Kennestone in Marietta. Zaxby"s will donate 10% of all sales from 5 - 8 pm to the 3rd Annual Mallory"s Walk! Hope you can stop by for dinner that night. It is hard to believe that it has been almost 2 years since we had to say good bye to our girl. Every day is a struggle and the holiday time is VERY difficult!! Anyone that knows Mallory personally knows how much she LOVED Christmas!! I went back and looked at the journal, here is Mallory"s post from December 2009: Merry Christmas everyone. Let"s all remember the best gift ever given, God giving His son to be our Savior.. the very first Christmas gift, and certainly the best! God Bless everyone! Mallory WOW! is all I can say. Miss my sweet angel so much. Hope you all have a great Christmas with your family and friends. If you think about it, please send up a prayer for us as we try our best to make it through a very difficult day. Thank you all for reading and we still check the guest book so feel free to leave us a note. God Bless and Merry Christmas! Lisa

Hello everyone! Our server that houses the website recently crashed on us and we lost a couple weeks of posts. Two of my journal entries, 9/12 and 9/17 are no longer in the journal. The entry on 9/12 was for Mallory’s birthday and the one on 9/17 marked the 5 year anniversary of Mallory’s 2nd transplant and to update the results of the walk. Also, if you signed the guestbook between 8/28 and 9/25 the entry was lost.

Here is a summary of September, which was a very difficult month. September 12th was Mallory’s birthday, she LOVED her birthday and we sure did miss celebrating with her! September 17th marked the 5 year anniversary of her 2nd transplant, which allowed us to have more time with our sweet girl. Extra prayers were said on this day as another family was dealing with a 5 year loss of their loved one.

As for the 2nd Annual Mallory’s Walk, it was a huge success!!! We probably had near 400 walkers and raised $22,221.08!! We have gotten additional donations in since the day of the walk so our total is now $22,681.08! Thanks so much to everyone that sponsored, attended and/or donated to the event!! If anyone wishes to donate it is NEVER too late, just shoot me an email and I will give you the details!

Thanks for reading and please leave us a note in the guest book to lets us know you stopped in! God Bless! Lisa

Hello everyone just thought I would give an update and let everyone know what has been going on in the Smith house!! First of all, we have a new grandson, Bryant Anson Smith, and just like his big brother he is PERFECT!!! He was scheduled to arrive via C-Section on April 18th, but wouldn’t you know it, he decided to come a day early, yep on the 17th!! Michael, Angela and the boys are doing great!!

We all are still struggling every day; the days are certainly not any easier that is for sure. I tried to sort through some of Mallory’s things in her room today and well I just could not do it, just way too hard. Mallory is still touching so many lives and we miss her so very much!!! So proud to be her momma!!!!

In case anyone is interested we are working on a few things to raise money for Mallory’s Scholarship. First of all, we have a new shipment of Team Mal shirts in, if you are interested in purchasing one please send me an email and we will work out the details, teammal717@gmail.com. Secondly, we are selling tickets to the KSU baseball game being played on May 19th at 1:00, tickets are $10.00 each and includes admission to the game and lunch. Please also send us an email if you are interested in attending or want to help sell tickets.

We are also working on the details for the 2nd Annual Mallory’s Walk which will be held at Northstar Church again this year. The date for the walk is September 16th; time will be announced later but will probably be around 2:00. We will be looking for Corporate Sponsors again this year as well as walkers to raise money and participate in the walk. Any suggestions please send us an email to teammal717@gmail.com.

Well, I believe that is it for now. Thanks so much for reading and please leave us a note in the guestbook!! Lisa and Mike

Hello everyone! Just thought I would let everyone know what has been going on and share a few stories with you!!
Last night I attended the KMHS Cheerleading Banquet for the presentation of the 2nd Annual Mallory Smith Cheer Scholarship that is awarded to the senior with the highest GPA, I have posted a picture. Thank you to Coach Gillam for continuing to share Mallory’s legacy and her passion for cheerleading! Good luck to the lovely young lady, Wynn Basnett, the recipient of this years scholarship! And, thank you to my sweet friend Rhonda for attending this very emotional event with me! We had to cut the night short due to the horrible storms in the area however, I was so honored! My brown eyed girl is still touching lives!!

Lisa & Wynn Basnett

I have a couple of 17 stories for you…..last week Mike and me met with Cheryl from Georgia Transplant Foundation to talk about the walk. After we ordered we were given a number for our table….yep #17!!! When the Daytona 500 started this past week I told Mike I had decided that whoever wins this race is who I would pull for this year, yep #17! My dad and my girl are just letting us know they are with us and they are okay.

We have started planning the 2nd Annual Mallory’s Walk! The date is Sunday September 16th and will be held at our church again, Northstar Church in Acworth. Please save the date and start thinking of ways you can help raise money for Georgia Transplant Foundation Mallory Smith Legacy Scholarship.

The family is doing okay, we miss Mallory every day and it just doesn’t get any easier!! So proud to be her mom! Little Man is doing great and will be welcoming a little brother in April, Anson Bryant Smith!! We are so very blessed!! Missing my girl……Lisa

Well, one year ago today we had to say good bye to our sweet brown eyed girl. I miss that girl every minute of every day and still find it unbelievable that she is no longer here. I have been trying to figure how what in the world to do to get through today. It has been a tough day, very tough day. On Friday at work I sent an email to a friend/coworker thanking her for a very sweet card she sent me. Her reply, got to me, really got to me, Alice wrote, “Just remember the good things that Mal accomplished in her short life. Be proud on Sunday that you are the mother of such an incredible young woman and the fact that she touched some many lives in an incredible way!! She"ll always be in your heart, I know that much, and that should be celebrated, not mourned!!! I think it would be a tribute to her to celebrate her on Sunday! I know I will, and I"m thankful that God gave me the opportunity to know her before He took her to live with Him! You all are loved!” These words hit me like a ton of bricks and made me think she is right, let’s celebrate Mallory and let’s make her proud!! Thank you Alice. So, that is just what we did. Mallory loves roses, so we got fresh roses and took them to her. We watched her favorite movie; we ate at her favorite restaurant and had her favorite entrée and dessert. But the highlight of the day was our visit to Egleston, this was TOUGH!! We went to the transplant floor and we gave out crazy socks to the transplant patients and to the nurses. We had some left so we left them there for other patients and nurses as they come in. We had all sizes for both girls and boys, we tied a ribbon around each pair and attached a card with Mallory’s picture and website on it. Thank you Heather for taking us around the unit and helping us with this very emotional task, we love you. We ran in to Miranda today, she is a nurse that was at Kennestone Hospital in July 2006 when I took Mallory to the ER before we knew she was to be diagnosed with Wilson’s Disease. She now works at Egleston on the transplant floor now, WOW Amazing! Thank you Rhonda and David for helping us get through this day. Thank you Angela and Little Man for being with us, we missed you Michael and are so proud of you. By the way, Little Man said NANA today. We will start planning the 2nd Annual Mallory’s Walk soon so be sure to start thinking about how you will help to share Mallory’s amazing story and support Georgia Transplant Foundation. God Bless you all, Lisa and Mike

Sunday, November 27, 2011

Well, Monday is November 28th, last year on November 28th Mallory was not feeling well.  I called the Liver team and was advised to take her to the ER at Emory.  We thought for sure this would be something minor….little did we know that we would never bring her home again.  This all still seems so unbelievable to us.  I cannot believe our girl is gone, just seems so unreal, still.    I had planned on making this a long entry….but I just cannot put into words all the emotions, so I will just leave it at this…..Mallory is missed every minute of every day, our lives will NEVER be the same.  The next few weeks and into January are going to be tough, SO tough.  Please if you think about it, pray for us….not just Mike and me, but all of us….Mallory’s family and Mallory’s friends as well.  Thank you for checking in and we appreciate your words and prayers.  Lisa
